Simple Self-care Practices For Your Hands

It’s very important to ensure that while you are taking care of your face, you don’t forget about your hands too. It’s ironic that even though I am a chronic nail biter, I can’t stand dirty nails, dry hands and other problems associated with them. I’m that person who can buy a Jaguar and have no money for gas.

Most people suffer from dry hands, followed closely by the problem of roughness. This is because hands are one of the most overexposed and overworked parts of the body.

When you’re on vacation, having the time of your life in sun and sand, how often do you remember to apply sunscreen on your hands? We mostly worry about the risk of sunburn on our faces and body instead. Guilty!

The following are simple steps you can put in place to show your hands some TLC;

1.Exfoliate

When you make that face/body scrub, don’t forget to apply it on your hands too. Be gentle and take your time on here, gently massaging your palms, the spaces between your fingers, your nails and all. This usually leaves my hands feeling and looking so soft and healthy.

How To Take Care Of Your Hands

2.Moisturize

Always use a light moisturizer on your hands to avoid feeling sweaty during the day. I prefer almond oil which I massage on there and I never forget my nails.

3.Sunscreen

I don’t go through this step, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s important. Think about it, our hands must be the only part of our bodies exposed for a full 12 hours. You need to protect them from the harmful effects of the sun.

4.Soaking your hands in warm water

You could add a few drops of essential oils like lavender, jasmine, etc. This practice eases the effects of pollution, dust and tiredness. It also refreshes your hands and promotes blood flow

5.Lemon therapy

Some nail removers usually stain your nails when you are trying to get rid of old polish. Instead of applying more and more of the liquid, choose the least amount possible and finish off with a nail brush and water to get rid of the stains. Squeeze half a lemon into warm water, stir and use the mixture to clean your nails.

Caring for your hands

Lemon juice has antibacterial properties so it also helps get rid of any dirt in your nails. An excellent way of promoting healthy nails. Remember to moisturize after!
